Women with Style July 5, 2011

This morning I decided to stop, and take a moment to update my blog.  I have been so busy working on fascinating assignment for the New Dean of Morehouse School of Medicine.  We have been hired to redesign her entire suite.  The school has not had a face lift in many years and as a Designer it gives me great pleasure to be a part of their decisions to move forward in the world of Interiors.  Stay tuned for before and after shots when the project is completed.

In the meantime I came across these (3) sexy photos for a  women who wants it all.

Styles of Today June 13, 2011

In today’s international market, design is all about color, color and more color.  I can remember 10 years ago when there were set rules as to what colors were to be used in Interior Design.  Now it’s about pink blending with orange.  Yellow, blue and gray making a pallet.  Bottom line it’s about the rules of the game have changed (there are no rules).  If your Interior Designer knows what they’re doing they can blend Venetian Plaster, with Brush Metallic and or Suede and rock the entire project.  Commercial and residential clients are willing in 2011 and moving forward to step outside the box or as I say (the square) and let the designer create a style that compliments their individuality .  Not based on statistics, but based strictly on what you want your home or your company to embrace and say at the end of the day.

We have selected interior images of yachts, lounges, reception areas, lighting, commercial glass structures, and lofts that provide a wide range of ideas.  As always we like to hear your opinions.  If you were or are in the process of doing a project… What style would be Yours?

Summer Interiors that are Simply Chic May 30, 2011

Today I was out most of the day, looking at all the beautiful and fabulous homes that were peaking between the trees.  I even went to some new model homes that the interiors were done with such elegance and grace.  I can always appreciate all styles of design but of course my favorite is contemporary.  So when I got home… I immediately came to the computer to find the seductive ingredients that blends “The Wow Factor”, Urban, Modern Contemporary and Simply Chic.

Forms of Art April 24, 2011

As an Interior Designer I constantly seduce the web searching for images that convey the inner thoughts of my mind.  Art is such a beautiful creature that can be displayed in many forms.  Of course I more drawn to  fashion designers, photographers, furniture designers, architects, and to be honest just about any texture of art is fascinating to me.  So when I do my blogs I cater more to images that convey a sense of seduction.

Wanderlust: Architonic goes walkabout in Cologne for Passagen 2011

With thermal under-apparel in place, Architonic ventured forth from the exhibition halls of the Koelnmesse during this January’s imm cologne to visit Passagen – the ever-growing programme of off-fair exhibitions and events in showrooms, galleries, museums and design schools throughout the city. Here are some of the highlights.
  • With the buzz around this year’s imm cologne that it’s rapidly returning to its former glory (let us not forget that the long-established furniture fair on the banks of the Rhine first opened its doors in 1949, a good ten years before the Milan Salone del Mobile, now widely regarded as the mother of all international design events, was launched), Architonic was there to report on the industry’s current – and future – movers and shakers, and to check out the new products on show.

Mike Meiré’s ‘Back Room: Adults Only’ installation took some of modernism’s most iconic furniture designs and gave them the SM/bondage treatment.

Now you see it, now you don’t: A&W Designer of the Year 2011 Tokujin Yoshioka’s dry-ice-filled exhibition at the Cologne Kunstverein was an homage to his ongoing concerns with transparency and lightness
  • Tokujin Yoshioka A&W Designer of the Year 2011 show at the Cologne Kunstverein
In stark contrast to Mike Meiré’s backroom was Tokujin Yoshioka’s light-filled exhibition at the Cologne Kunstverein, which, marking the Japanese designer’s winning of the coveted title of A&W Designer of the Year 2011, foregrounded his long-held fascination with transparency and lightness. Replete with ethereal dry ice, the space, with its glazing on both sides and back-lit wall panels, underpinned the visual levity of the work on show: chairs and objects designed over the last ten year’s of Yoshioka’s career that, either through their form or material, occupy a liminal position between being there and gesturing towards a denial of their presence.

  • Designers Fair 2011 at the Barthonia Forum
Cologne. If the city’s name doesn’t make you think of Kölsch beer or carnival, then it might be the classic 4711 eau de cologne that comes to mind. The Designers Fair 2011 (no apostrophe) took place this year in the company’s old building in the Ehrenfeld district of the city, lending, as it has in its previous two annual editions, young independent designers a platform to showcase their work. We particularly liked design collective JASD’s (Jan Weber, Agnes Morguet, Stefan Zickert and Daniel Stoller) concrete and stone offerings, PSA Scherer’s highly graphic ‘Aluminium Chair’, Stadtnomaden’s formally reduced, flexible furniture collection and Pepe Heykoop’s leather lampshades. Ah, the sweet smell of young design.

Country Chic March 30, 2011

With its lush lawns and myriad horse farms, Great Falls, Virginia, is the perfect image of the American dream. But step through the front door of interior designer Natascha Folens’s Great Falls, Virginia, farmhouse and you leave behind any reminders of Americana. True, the home Folens shares with her two children and boyfriend Luc Dejager is situated on five acres, with stables and a large riding ring for the family’s three horses. But the Belgian-born designer’s retreat is a decidedly sophisticated take on the country home, absent of folk art and bright hues, and abundant in rich colors and textures. “Some homes are so overdone. My vision is an old country home you would see in Europe,” says Folens, who favors clean lines over gingerbread and saturated, harmonious colors over white-trimmed windows and doors.

As a designer I’ve learned the one thing that women love… are beautiful things.  Our fashion style doesn’t dictate a generic sense as rule of thumb.  We are willing to try all types of hair styles, shoes, dresses, and lovers.  Bedrooms are one of my favorite rooms to design because they are so personal and yet they have such an air of beauty to them.  They also say that a bedroom tells a lot about a persons inner soul.  Please take a glimpse into our collections of bedroom photos we selected just for you!
